Unfortunately, raw talent is just not enough any more to be successful--or even recognized in today's extremely crowded and increasingly competitive publishing field. Over burdened editors and publishers now must almost always instantly reject any manuscript which in any way, shape or form appears to be submitted by an "amateur."

 

Once you "strike out" with your first submission, that editor, literary agent, or publishing firm will surely be less than enthusiastic when considering you on another project. A project which may have the very same technical flaws you simply never were even aware existed. CRITIQUE SERVICES:

• Line by line correctional edit

(Editing for grammar, sentence construction, punctuation, etc. done directly on submitted manuscript.)

• Page by page reading notes

(Suggestions for alternate choice of words, phrasings, etc.)

• Separate overall critique

(A separate, comprehensive evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses in terms of overall plot, characterization, style, point of view, dialogue, format, etc. For a short story or article this would generally run two single-spaced pages, while for a book the critique would generally consist of about five single-spaced pages.)

• Marketing tips if material is saleable

(If the material is saleable in its present form--in other words, if it needs no extensive rewriting other than completed editorial suggestions--then you will receive specific suggestions for marketing your work. This will include names of publications and literary agencies who are interested in just your kind of writing.)

• Book Analysis

(An in-depth critical evaluation to judge if the present text is of adequate literary standard to benefit further editing and revision, as well as having marketing potential for submission to commercial publishers. No editing is done directly on the manuscript at this stage.)

Your photocopied manuscript must be on 8.5" x 11" white paper, double-spaced and preferably typed in regular pica or elite font. (Only query letters are to be single-spaced.) Your name and address should be on the first page of the manuscripts. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope or mailer for the return of your material. For your benefit and mine, please include a personal letter detailing your background as a writer, your current interests, and your publishing goals.
