"Remembrance Of Summer" is literally that to me. This was the last remaining geranium on my porch in late September. The late afternoon sun lit the red geranium so intensely I just had to keep this image forever. It was one of those days that you really regret the passing of summer into fall. The pot of flowers had gone by and the only bloom left was that cadmium red blossom. I loved it's defiance of the season encroaching upon it. The most difficult thing in this painting was getting the red right. Red is just one of those difficult colors for me. Even in this example on this page, the red is not showing as intensely as it does in person. The shadows on the wall are another interesting aspect to me. My house is a pale yellow and the shadows just seemed to be so purple to me. I love the way this pot of flowers (that someone else would've thrown out by now) made such an intense impression on me.
